When I began Heirloom Naga in the 1990s, the intention was never just to build a brand—it was to ensure that the extraordinary handmade traditions of Northeast India did not disappear with time. Working from a remote region came with many challenges: limited infrastructure, market access, and visibility. Yet those very challenges strengthened our resolve to prove that craftsmanship rooted in culture could stand confidently on a global stage.
From the outset, our journey has been guided by the belief that traditional skills must evolve to survive. Over the years, we have consciously built a diversified product portfolio that responds to changing lifestyles and global markets while remaining deeply anchored in indigenous techniques. In doing so, we have worked closely with and skilled several hundred artisans, creating sustainable livelihoods and enabling traditional knowledge to be carried forward with dignity and purpose.
Heirloom Naga has remained committed to excellence, which has allowed us to become the only enterprise from Northeast India to consistently showcase and retail through B2B overseas customers across several well-recognised international retail chains. This global engagement has reaffirmed our belief that authenticity, when paired with innovation and quality, has universal relevance.
At the heart of our work lies a simple but enduring objective: to keep our cultural traditions alive by adapting them into contemporary, functional products that resonate with today’s world—without compromising their essence.
In 2023, this vision took physical form with the establishment of the Heirloom Naga Centre—a space dedicated to the promotion, preservation, and celebration of Naga cultural traditions. The Centre reflects our long-term commitment to cultural stewardship, education, and community engagement and stands as a legacy project for future generations.
Heirloom Naga is not just a business; it is a continuing journey to honour the past while shaping a sustainable and meaningful future for our craft, our artisans, and our culture.
